Saturday Savings

The Purex saga was finally lived out last weekend. I found out that Kroger was having a sale on Purex if you buy 10 they were $2.49 each. They didn't have the Purex w/ Zout, so they took my coupons for regular Purex.

I do have a story though, so the Kroger store I went to was really nice and did take my coupons for regular Purex instead of the Purex w/ Zout which is what the coupon was for. I ordered 20 $3.00 coupons on ebay, like I talked about last week. When they got down to the last two coupons they told me they couldn't take them because it would make the product free and I HAD to pay tax. So the store manager handed me back two coupons. Which I thought was kinda funny because if she actually did the math, she was giving me the tax free on most of the bottles of detergent. So I ended up adding two
more bottles to my order.

Purex - $0.40 ea. (x 22)
Technically, these were free but I included in my final price the price I paid for the coupons on ebay ($8.98). Regular price was $3.98 ea.

Old Spice Deodorant and Bodywash - $0.88
Old Spice Deodorant was on sale for $1.88. I used the BOGO Old Spice and $1.00 off Old Spice coupon (2/27/11 ads). Regular price for the deodorant was $2.64 and the body wash (which was free) was $3.99.

Pantene Hairspray - $2.49
On sale for $3.49 and I used $1 off Pantene Product (2/27/11 ads). Regular price was $4.23.

Saturday Savings ~ Hard Lessons Learned

This week I learned a hard lesson in Sales and Coupons! I'm still bummed about this deal. Our local Giant Eagle had BOGO Purex. This would have made it 2/$5.98 - $3.00 (x2) off coupon = Free. So I ordered 20 $3.00 off coupons from ebay and (im)patiently waited for them to arrive.

Here's the lesson: Giant Eagle's sales run Wednesday to Wednesday. I didn't get my coupons until Thursday due to the holiday on Monday. Now I have 20 $3.00 off coupons that I paid $8.00 for and the only reason I paid that much is because I was expecting to get 20 bottles of detergent for free (or $0.40 each including the amount I paid for the coupons). So from here on out, I will look for sale ending dates before I pay for coupons. The good thing about my lesson is the coupons don't expire until 03/19 so hopefully we will see a similar sale in the next three weeks.

**I know this is one day early, I accidently published and just went with it**

This week I did another stock up! I ordered 20/$2.00 off Dove Deoderant coupons from ebay but this time the seller surprised me and sent 40 extra Dove Shampoo and Bodywash coupons with the order. So my total per coupon came out to be $0.13.

Dove Deodorant - $0.26 ea.
Deal - Kroger has Dove Deoderant on sale for $2.00 (through 02/12). I got 20 sticks of deodorant and only paid tax, which came out to be $2.60 ($0.13 ea.). I also added in the final price of $0.13 per stick for the coupons I ordered on ebay.

Febreze Home Collection & Old Spice Deodorant - $2.39, shippedP&G has an eStore now, if you sign up for their email list you get a free Febreze Refill. Then take that code and click on the Old Spice deodorant, it will give you $0.25 off because it's your first order. Check out with your code and $5.00 will be taken off for shipping. This leaves your total at $2.39 or $1.19 ea.

Savings Saturday

This week we tried out a new grocery store. As cheap as I have found Wal-Mart can be, I love that Meijer does double coupons. We price compared a few things between the two and they seemed to be about the same. So armed with coupons we did our normal grocery shopping minus our "stocked up items." We ended up saving $29.57 in coupons and at Wal-Mart that would have been cut in half because they don't double.

Below I listed the best deals we found this week:

Reynold's Wrap Aluminum Foil $0.09
Deal: On sale for $1.59 at Meijer. $0.75 off coupon (doubles)

French's Mustard $0.78
Deal: On sale for $1.38 at Meijer. $0.30 off coupon (doubles)

Knorr Pasta Sides $0.50 ea. (x2)
Deal: On sale for $1.00 at Meijer. $0.50 off two coupon (doubles)

Glad Force Flex $2.99
Deal: On sale for $6.99 at Kmart. $2.00 off coupon (doubles)

Without Coupons $11.96

With Coupons $4.86

Remember last week how I told you I started searching on ebay for coupons? Well, I purchased some (well more like 20) to see how I liked it. I think I'm hooked. Oh the high of leaving the store with 20 tubes of toothpaste. Yes, you heard me 20 tubes of toothpaste. I'm not planning on buying anymore toothpaste for at least another year.

So, here's what I did: I bought 20 $0.75 off Crest coupons for $0.99.

Crest Toothpaste $16.80 (20 tubes)
Deal: Kroger had Crest on sale for $2.34 (reg. $2.99) - $1.50 ($0.75 doubled) = $0.84 ea.
Get a better deal at Kroger this week if you buy 10 Crest use 10 coupons making it $2.00, your total will be $0.50 ea.

Kraft Singles $1
Deal: Giant Eagle has Kraft Singles on sale for $2 (reg. $3.79) and I used $1.00 off coupon = $1.00 ea.

Green Giant Frozen Veggies $1.00 for two
Deal: Giant Eagle has Green Giant veggies on sale for $1.00 and I used a $0.50 off two coupon (which doubles) = $1.00

Without Coupons: $65.59

With Coupons: $19.79 (includes $0.99 for my coupons I ordered)

Savings Saturday

This week I started searching ebay and coupon clipping services for coupons. I feel like there is so much more to learn now. I love the idea of stocking up on a good deal so we don't have to pay a ton for things we use all the time. I wished I had about 10 more of the Colgate coupons when I found the clearance deal listed below. You can't beat toothpaste for $0.59 a tube when it's regularly $2 +.

Hefty Force Flex $11.92 (2, 55 count boxes)
Deal: Wal-Mart (reg. $8.96 ea.) I used two $3.00 off coupons from last week.

Purex $3.34 (2, 32 loads)
Deal: Kmart on sale 2/$5 (reg. $5.98 ea.) I used two $1.00 off coupons from Purex website.

Colgate $0.59
Deal: Giant Eagle had Colgate on their clearance rack for $1.49 and I had a $1.00 off coupon from a month ago that was about to expire.

Without Coupons: $31.37

With Coupons: $15.85

Savings Saturday

The biggest thing I've learned about couponing is to stock up when there is a good deal. I will usually print 2 or 3 of the coupons I find online (if it allows me to) so I can stock up at a good price. This gets us through until I find the next deal on that item. For example, currently we have about 4 tubes of toothpaste, 4 bottles of mouthwash, 4 boxes of pasta, etc. These are all things I stocked up on last time I found a good deal.

This week I was able to stock up on some more things:

Soda: 5 bottles for $5
Deal: CVS on Sale 5/$5 (regularly $1.99)

Campbell's Select Harvest Soup: 2 cans for $2
Deal: CVS on sale 2/$3 (regularly $3.59) w/ $1.00 off coupon (coupons.com) = $1.00 ea.

BIC Triumph Roller Pens: $0.13
Deal: Walgreen On Sale for $1.99 (regularly $4.99) but free with $2.00 off coupon here

Without Coupons: $22.12

With Coupons: $7.13

(I used my $4.00 in ECB from last week which left my total at $3.13)

Savings Saturday

Today is my first post about deals we are running into and what we have taken advantage of. For me there is a line between saving on what you need and buying something because it's cheap. I have to check myself all the time. This week I have listed the deals that we took advantage of. I like to stock up on basics (mouthwash, toothpaste, etc.) so when they are on sale I usually buy multiples but having the coupons added into the sale really makes a huge difference.

Listerine Zero Mouthwash: 2 Bottles for $5.61
Deal: CVS has these on sale for $5.00/each (Normally $6.79). Here you can find $2.00 off Listerine coupons. My total came to $10.00 and I used 2 $2.00 off coupons, plus $1 ECB (Extra Care Buck)=$5.61, then I got $5.00 in ECB back.

Kellogg's Special K: 4 Boxes for -$1.66
Deal: CVS has Kellogg's Cereal on sale 3/$10 (Normally $3.69). Here you can find a BOGO coupon if you fill out the My Plan. My total came to $13.34 and I used 2 BOGO coupons and the $5.00 ECB from above=$1.66, with $4 in ECB back.

Wholly Guacamole: $0.66
Deal: Giant Eagle has Wholly Guacamole for $2.66. Here you can get a $2.00 off coupon by clicking "Rock the Guac"

Without coupons: $35.13

With Coupons: $3.93If you are unsure what something means or have a question about the deal, please ask!
