July 5, 2009 was the official day I quit smoking. I can't believe it's been two months. I still have fond memories of polluting my lungs with all kinds of carcinogens while enjoying good conversation on the 'smoke patio.' But those days are long gone and not missed often.
I have not cheated at all. I know myself well enough to know that that is the gateway to staring back up. I did have a very weak moment last week. If I had a pack of cigarettes close I would have grabbed one. Luckily, I was able to talk myself off the ledge.
Now, on to all the health benefits I've gained from quitting for 2 months:
1.Coughing and shortness of breath decrease
2. Cilia (tiny hair-like structures that move mucus out of the lungs) regain normal function, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce the risk of infection
I can't wait when I get to annouce it's been a year. Do you have a story about quitting smoking? I'd love to hear it.

Yea for you! Wish I had a button to give you! Keep it up.
Congrats - that is amazing, I have seen first hand how hard it can be for someone to quit.
No personal story here but congrats on this wonderful milestone.
I've never smoked but know people who have quit and after they have been away from it for quite some time they say the smell of cig. butts in an ash tray is disgusting to them. Good job girl- and on the weight loss--Good luck, from your profile picture it doesn't look like you nees to loose a pound.
I'm part of the DIY party. I signed up as a follower and hope you do the same.

Hey..it has been 5 years for me. If you can remember that far back. I quit on Superbowl Sunday 2004. Why that date? I hadn't a clue..but it was cold turkey. I can't tell you how many times I quit before but this time around it stuck-and then I got pregnant almost immediatly with Tatum. I haven't looked back. Keep it up. You will thank yourself in the end.
Thank you for all the support. I keep plugging away.
