Jackson's Nursery

Welcome to Jackson's Nursery

Now that we are finally settling into a good routine I wanted to show you Jackson's Nursery. We've been working on his room almost my entire pregnancy. As most pregnant Mom's will tell you, the nursery is such an important thing. I felt like it was my gift to Jackson and wanted him to feel at home in his new room. Crazy, maybe?

My goal with Jackson's room was to make it contemporary to go with the rest of our house. I'm not a huge fan of character nurseries but just fell in love with the Dwell Studio's Owls.

So when my cousin said she could make a mobile that looked like the Dwell Studio's Owls I was so excited. It turned out great and Jackson loves to watch the owls and trees spin around.

Next we needed something to decorate the walls and I had some wall decals in mind I had seen on Etsy. I think they go really well with the Dwell Owls.

I then added some elements on a shelf to pull the room together and give it a more personal touch. I found the these mercury glass owls at West Elm, the picture was cross stitched by my aunt, my Mom found his initial train in Amish Country and the "family" statue was give to us when Jackson was in NICU by my Mom's friend. Also, I put a pacifier jar on the shelf. I saw this on a design site and thought it was a perfect element for a nursery. Plus a great way to not lose pacifiers!

I love doing DIY projects so I had to make sure to include some of my handy work in Jackson's room. These pictures were featured in this post.

To handle Jackson's cloth diapers, I added a bin on the top of the dresser next to his changing pad to store the diapers in. Also, we have a pail with our Planetwise wet bag to store the dirty diapers.

DIY Nursery Art

I was looking for some cheap art to fill our Ikea frames for Jackson's nursery and was coming up empty. Either it was too expensive or wouldn't go with the nursery. Then it hit me...DIY!!! I love the personal touch that doing little projects like this can add to a room.

Dwell Studio has wallpaper samples on their website for $9.99. The few owls and trees this sample comes with was just what I needed to fit inside our frames.

I quickly clicked order and very impatiently waited for the wallpaper sample to arrive. While I waited I headed to the craft store to find some scrapbook paper to put the owls and trees on. I decided that gray would be a great background, so I got a few shades.

One week later my wallpaper sample showed up in the mail and I started on this project right away.

This took a lot of precision cutting but didn't take a lot of time at all.

I also made a picture in Photoshop because I love hanging pictures in three's. Chris and I both love Bob Marley and wanted to have something in Jackson's room to reflect that. So I used the words from one of our favorite Bob Marley songs and had it printed out a local printing shop.

"Don't worry bout a thing 'cause everything little thing gonna be alright"

We hung all three pictures above the dresser but you'll have to wait a little bit longer to see the final pictures.

{New Curtains}

We have been working really hard to finish the nursery over the last month. We bought these curtains at Target for $24.99 per panel. The color goes so perfectly with the bedding.

We decided that we will make blue the accent color so last night I ordered some tree decals for the wall next to the closet and I'm working on finding some fun prints for above the dresser. I'd also like to do a fun DIY project I found on Pinterest but I'm still working out the kinks in it.

{Nursery Update}

We made a huge trip to Ikea this weekend and ended up buying a dresser, a rocker and an ottoman for Jackson's room. We are still missing a lot of color in this room but I have some great ideas for bringing that in, I just can't decide if my accent color will be blue or green? What do you think? (Click here for a closer picture of the bedding)

{Colors}

This is what my son's room looked like before we finally made a choice. This Mama was having a really hard time picking out a color.

We have decided on the Dwell Studio Owl Bedding but with all the colors in the pattern, I couldn't seem to make up my mind.

What color would you pick to go with this bedding?

{Half Way}

Looking back on the last two years it seemed like we would never see those two pink lines on a pregnancy test, let alone be 20 weeks into a pregnancy. March will be here before we know it. Here is an update of me and sneak peek at the nursery.

{Nursery Ideas}

Ofcourse, I already started working on ideas for the nursery. I'm a planner at heart, what can I say? So here is a first mock up of what the nursery *may* look like. I feel like we could make this gender specific if we wanted to later.

The color blocks at the top are potential wall colors and this is the bedding we have settled on.

What do you think?
