What no one tells you about TTC...

I wish someone would have warned us about the emotional roller coaster that trying to have a baby is. It should be something that you and your friends talk about. Why isn't it?

I mean not everyone gets pregnant on the first month trying, actually most couples don't:

-Just 25% of couples actively trying to conceive become pregnant the first month

-60% become pregnant in the first 6 months

-75% become pregnant in the first 9 months

-90% become pregnant in the first 18 months

(Source: Amazing Pregnancy)

Why do people pretend this is something that comes easy, it's not! But what you hope for is that on the other end, you come out a stronger couple with a child in your arms. I think Christopher and I are at that point, we've pulled together and are realizing that this is going to take some time. But on a positive note, adding one more month to this journey seems to increase our odds. I like it!

Now that we're on the topic, how long did it take you to conceive?

It seems like talking about TTC is so taboo. Why is that?

With my oldest, we weren't even trying. I was on the Pill when I found out I was pregnant with her. With my 2nd daughter, we had 2 months of failed pregnancy tests and was pregnant on the 3rd month. We're TTC our 3rd and this one's proving to be a little harder -- 6 months and counting now.

I'm so sorry... TTC is so terribly frustrating! With our first, we tried for 10 months, were told we we would need Clomid so we stopped to ponder whether or not we wanted to use it. We decided to forego any fertility meds, I got a job and we quit trying. We got pregnant a month later :)

So you can imagine my surprise when we WEREN'T trying and had one night where we didn't use protection, and now are pregnant with #2.... that's not supposed to happen RIGHT?!?!?! God definitely has a sense of humor.

I am so glad to hear that you are clinging to each other. TTC is so stressful on the relationship. Keep your chin up-- it WILL happen and when it does it will be the most happiest time ever!

It is naive of you to think that trying to conceive would not be stressful. You only get 12 chances a year to find out if what you have been working at each month worked, of course it will be stressful. Just keep trying and don't get down on yourselves, everything will work out.

With my first it only took 5 months but it was definitely a roller coaster ride to try to get our sweet little girl to want to come! We tried for a year and a half and had 2 miscarriages during that time. It can be frustrating but I think for some reason we all need to learn something from every challenge or trial we go through. I know I did. We come out better people in the end for it :) Good luck!

Thank you for starting this conversation. I am not trying right now, but I certainly had a "plan" and now I am wondering why I ever thought it would be that easy to wake up one day and say to my hubby "OK, Let's start trying" and then have it all work out. Just as you said - no one really talks about how hard it can be.

It took us one year exactly, but i only had 8 cycles I think. It was on our first round of Clomid.

First of all, "anonymous" is a freaking moron, as many of us know, not everyone gets 12 chances a year and insulting someone and not having the balls to leave your name is cowardly which is worse than being naive.

And I wish I knew how hard it would be to get pregnant, I was one of those people who had a plan and thought it would work out perfectly. Now, a year and 7 months later, I'm still waiting on my bfp. Hang in there, Christy, we'll get our well-deserved babies soon.. :)

Both of my girls weren't actively TTC. I look fwd to actually planning for our 3rd, hopefully. But I do know of many of my friends that takes them months to conceive. I too don't get why it's taboo, same with all of the nitty gritty about pregnancy.

Hang in there! You are doing what is right for you and Chris and that is all that matters. I can say I don't know much about TTC as with Baby #1-SURPRISE and we tried for a few months for baby #2. Im still hoping for a baby #3 but not seeing that in my near future. I hope TTC for you isnt as taboo as most people seem to make it.

Keep hangin in. Looks like you have a great support system and an outlet in place.

People told me that we would have a hard time conceiving because I had never had a "close call". which looking back now is just total BS. We were lucky and got pregnant on our first try.
